Heading: About Angelique Wood

Vancouver Photographer and Artist, Angelique Wood, was born in Montreal in 1970 and almost immediately her family moved west to Chilliwack, B.C.

Raised by her defiant, protective single mother, Angelique soon showed signs of her mother's independence, and, her defiance.

The opportunity to escape the limitations of life in a rural community presented itself in the form of a scholarship to UBC. After attending for two years, and disillusioned with the insularity of academia, Angelique rented a bachelor suite in Vancouver's downtown eastside, at the notorious intersection of Main and Hastings.

A graduate of Emily Carr College of Art and Design, Angelique has organized and participated in numerous Vancouver art shows, including Artropolis and A Book is A Place. In addition to Vancouver art showings, Ms. Wood has exhibited her photography and art in Winnipeg and Edmonton. Recently, the University of Washington Libraries, Special Collections division, has acquired one of her books.

A frequent focus of Angelique's work is art in public settings and guerilla art. Her work is often specific to place and time, and concerned with the themes of identity, marginalization, and self-realization.

Angelique Wood creates, works, and lives in Vancouver, BC.
